Acerbis ADV Type D handguards are designed for Adventure motorcycles, combining reinforced lever protection with increased hand coverage for road and off-road riding. The closed 35 mm ANTICORODAL aluminium C-section is paired with a large plastic shield, upper extensions and a more flexible lower section for active riding. The design helps protect the hands and controls from wind, stones, mud and contact with obstacles.

Acerbis ADV Type D are closed wrap-around handguards developed for Adventure motorcycles used across paved roads, gravel and off-road terrain. A strong 35 mm ANTICORODAL aluminium C-section creates the structural protection around the controls, while a large plastic shield provides additional coverage from airflow, stones, mud and debris.
The design is primarily intended for Adventure and light off-road riding, but Acerbis states that its strength also makes it suitable for hard enduro, cross-country and maxi-enduro motorcycles.
MORE THAN A PLASTIC WIND DEFLECTOR
ADV Type D does not rely solely on an open plastic shield.
Its key component is a closed aluminium backbone running around the lever area. This creates a mechanical barrier between the controls and obstacles encountered while riding.
The guards help protect:
brake lever
clutch lever
brake and clutch master-cylinder assemblies
rider’s hands from branches and flying debris
exposed handlebar controls during off-road riding
No handguard can guarantee that a lever or motorcycle component will remain undamaged in every crash, but the reinforced wrap-around structure offers significantly greater mechanical support than a plastic shield alone.
35 MM ANTICORODAL C-SECTION
The core of the system is a durable 35 mm ANTICORODAL aluminium C-section.
The 35 mm measurement refers to the C-section profile, not the diameter of a round aluminium bar.
Its profile combines structural strength with a design suitable for large Adventure motorcycles. The aluminium section carries the main mechanical load while the plastic component creates a larger protective area in front of the hand.
LARGE SHIELD FOR TOURING
The sizeable plastic shield is designed to provide useful coverage on long journeys as well as off-road sections.
It helps reduce direct exposure to:
airflow
dust
mud
water spray
small stones
branches and vegetation
Upper extensions increase the protected area and provide additional coverage from air and debris.
This is particularly useful during long-distance touring, gravel riding and mixed-weather Adventure trips.
FLEXIBLE LOWER SECTION
The lower portion of the shield is deliberately more flexible.
When standing on the footpegs, an Adventure rider moves substantially around the motorcycle and the knee may occasionally come into contact with the handguard. The flexible lower zone is intended to yield during accidental knee contact rather than presenting an entirely rigid edge.
This can be useful during:
standing riding
rough terrain
climbs and descents
active body positioning
rally and Adventure riding
FOR ROAD, GRAVEL AND OFF-ROAD USE
ADV Type D suits motorcycles that are expected to perform in more than one environment.
On the road, the larger shield reduces direct airflow over the hands. On gravel and trails, it adds coverage from stones, mud and vegetation. The closed aluminium structure simultaneously provides mechanical protection around the levers.
Typical applications include:
Adventure touring
long-distance travel
gravel roads
light off-road riding
rally-style riding
more demanding terrain
The shield is not an insulated winter cover and should not be treated as a replacement for suitable cold-weather gloves or heated grips.
ADV TYPE D COMPATIBILITY
Acerbis uses several letter-designated versions within the ADV family. Although their basic construction is similar, the mounting arrangement is adapted to specific motorcycles.
Current manufacturer information for ADV Type D lists applications including:
Yamaha Ténéré 700 2024–2026
Yamaha Ténéré Rally 700 2025–2026
CFMOTO 800 MT-X 2024–2026 in the corresponding Acerbis market catalogue
Always verify the exact motorcycle model, production year and specification before ordering.
Other model-specific options can be found in the MEFO closed handguards by motorcycle category.
SIMPLIFIED INSTALLATION DESIGN
Acerbis describes the ADV system as having simplified assembly compared with the Endurance range, using a greater number of standardised components while maintaining model-specific mounting.
After installation, always check:
full brake-lever movement
full clutch-lever movement
unrestricted throttle return
clearance from hoses and wiring
full steering movement from lock to lock
clearance from the windscreen and fairing
Handguards must never interfere with safe motorcycle operation.
MATERIAL COMPOSITION
Acerbis lists the European product composition as:
67% aluminium
10% steel
23% plastic
The aluminium forms the main structural backbone, steel is used in structural and mounting components, and plastic creates the large protective shield.
The handguards are made in Italy.

BUILT FOR ADVENTURES THAT CONTINUE BEYOND THE TARMAC
Acerbis ADV Type D combines two functions that matter on a large Adventure motorcycle: reinforced wrap-around protection for the control levers and substantial coverage for the rider’s hands.
It is therefore more than a simple touring wind deflector. The construction is equally at home during everyday riding and long-distance travel as it is when the route turns to gravel or off-road terrain.
