The chain guide is one of the most heavily stressed components of the drivetrain and gradually wears out during motocross and enduro riding. The Acerbis RACE chain guide for YAMAHA two-stroke motorcycles allows you to replace only the worn slider without disconnecting the chain, and thanks to its CNC-machined extruded polymer construction, it offers high durability. The precise OEM shape ensures trouble-free installation on the specified motorcycle models, and a replacement slider can be purchased separately. The design is engineered for a long service life and regular use in demanding conditions. Show all

Acerbis RACE chain guide – CNC-machined rear guide with replaceable slider

The Acerbis RACE chain guide is a strengthened rear chain-guide design intended for motocross, enduro, hard enduro and other applications where the motorcycle's final drive is subjected to demanding mechanical loads.

Unlike conventional injection-moulded guides, the RACE version is manufactured from extruded polymer and subsequently CNC-machined. This construction provides precise geometry, a robust guide body and increased mechanical resistance for demanding off-road use.

The guide keeps the chain on the intended path around the rear sprocket and helps control unwanted lateral movement during acceleration, suspension travel, landings and rough-terrain riding.

A major advantage is the separately replaceable slider. As the main chain-contact component wears, it can be replaced without replacing the complete guide. On this design, the slider can also be changed without splitting the drive chain.

RACE construction for demanding use

The RACE guide is more than a cosmetic variation of a standard guide.

It is designed for conditions involving:

  • strong chain impacts,

  • contact with rocks and roots,

  • deep ruts,

  • mud and sand,

  • vibration,

  • rapid load changes,

  • large rear-suspension movements.

In these situations, guide rigidity and dimensional accuracy are important for keeping the chain within its intended path.

Extruded polymer rather than a conventional injection-moulded body

The main guide body is produced from extruded polymer.

It is then CNC-machined to create the:

  • chain-guiding profile,

  • mounting surfaces,

  • fixing holes,

  • chain path,

  • replaceable-slider interface.

Compared with conventional injection-moulded designs, the RACE construction is focused on increased structural strength and resistance to demanding mechanical loads.

CNC machining for precise geometry

Accurate geometry is critical in a rear chain guide.

The chain must be able to pass through without binding while still being sufficiently controlled before it reaches the rear sprocket.

CNC machining provides precise finishing of the individual surfaces and mounting features, contributing to:

  • correct positioning on the motorcycle,

  • accurate chain guidance,

  • consistent dimensions,

  • precise integration of the slider and guide body.

Stable chain guidance around the rear sprocket

The chain does not move only in its normal rotational direction.

During rapid load changes it may also move:

  • laterally,

  • vertically,

  • relative to the sprocket,

  • relative to the swingarm.

The Acerbis RACE guide helps control this movement and retain the chain in the area required for correct engagement with the rear sprocket.

This becomes particularly important during:

  • hard acceleration,

  • engine braking,

  • jump landings,

  • major suspension compression,

  • rocky terrain,

  • technical climbs,

  • deep ruts.

Replaceable slider – replace only the worn component

The main wear surface is the slider, which comes into direct contact with the chain.

On the Acerbis RACE guide it is a separate replaceable component.

If the main guide body remains serviceable, the complete guide does not need to be replaced when the slider reaches its wear limit.

Benefits include:

  • lower future service costs,

  • quicker maintenance,

  • continued use of the main guide body,

  • replacement only of the actual wear component,

  • convenient servicing before racing or training.

The replacement slider is available separately.

Slider replacement without splitting the chain

The guide is designed so the slider can be replaced without separating the chain.

This avoids the need to:

  • remove a chain master link,

  • split a riveted chain,

  • reconnect the chain after servicing.

It is particularly useful for quick maintenance between rides or before a race.

Still a serviceable wear component

Even the strengthened RACE design requires routine inspection.

The chain, sand, mud and other contaminants gradually wear the contact surfaces and slider.

Wear rate depends on:

  • chain slack,

  • motorcycle power,

  • chain and sprocket condition,

  • riding style,

  • sand and mud,

  • terrain,

  • maintenance frequency.

Inspect both the guide and slider regularly.

How to identify a worn slider

Replacement should be considered when there is:

  • a deep chain groove,

  • significant material thinning,

  • uneven wear,

  • deformation,

  • chain contact with the main guide body.

Do not wait until the chain wears completely through the slider.

Timely replacement helps protect the CNC-machined guide body.

Inspect the complete guide body

Whenever replacing the slider, also inspect the complete guide.

Check for:

  • cracks,

  • impact damage,

  • deformation,

  • mounting-point damage,

  • loose fasteners,

  • damage to steel components,

  • correct slider seating.

If the main structure itself is damaged, replacing only the slider is not sufficient.

Sand and mud act as abrasives

During off-road riding, dirt and lubricant collect between the chain and slider.

Sand and dust can form an abrasive compound that significantly accelerates wear.

After demanding riding, it is useful to:

  • remove heavy mud deposits,

  • clean the guide area,

  • inspect the slider,

  • verify unrestricted chain movement.

Regular cleaning also makes damage easier to identify early.

Correct chain slack remains essential

A robust chain guide cannot compensate for incorrect chain adjustment.

A chain that is too loose can move excessively through the guide and strike it with greater force.

A chain that is too tight creates increased loads throughout the final drive as the suspension compresses.

Correct slack helps protect the:

  • guide,

  • slider,

  • chain,

  • rear sprocket,

  • countershaft sprocket,

  • countershaft bearings.

Always use the motorcycle manufacturer's specified chain-slack measurement procedure.

Inspect during chain-and-sprocket servicing

Whenever replacing the chain or sprockets, also inspect:

  • the rear chain guide,

  • slider,

  • swingarm chain slider,

  • chain rollers,

  • adjusters,

  • chain alignment.

A new chain kit should not operate with heavily worn guide components.

A range of drive chains is also available.

Application-specific fit

The Acerbis RACE guide is not universal.

Each version is designed around the specific motorcycle and accounts for:

  • original mounting points,

  • rear-sprocket position,

  • chain-path width,

  • swingarm construction,

  • required chain position.

The correct version installs without:

  • drilling,

  • cutting,

  • grinding,

  • additional adaptation.

Always verify fitment

Before ordering, check the:

  • motorcycle manufacturer,

  • model,

  • model year,

  • specific version where applicable.

Use the fitment table on the product page as the deciding reference.

Even the same motorcycle model may use different swingarm or chain-guide configurations between model years.

For motocross, enduro and hard enduro

The RACE construction is particularly suitable where the guide is regularly exposed to demanding conditions.

Typical applications include:

  • motocross,

  • enduro,

  • hard enduro,

  • competitive off-road riding,

  • intensive training,

  • technical rocky terrain.

It can also be used recreationally, but its strengthened construction is particularly relevant in high-load applications.

Made in Italy

The Acerbis RACE guide is manufactured in Italy.

Its construction combines extruded polymer, precision CNC machining and steel components to create a robust rear chain guide for demanding off-road use.

RACE is defined by the construction, not only the name

The Acerbis RACE guide is intended for situations where a standard chain guide is repeatedly exposed to heavy loads from both the chain and the terrain. Extruded polymer, CNC machining and a replaceable slider combine structural strength, dimensional accuracy and convenient future servicing.

When the wear surface eventually reaches its limit, the most expensive part of the guide does not automatically need to be replaced. Inspect the guide body, renew the slider and continue riding – without splitting the chain.
