ACERBIS ADV TYPE C HANDGUARDS FOR BMW R 1300 GS

Acerbis ADV Type C are closed wrap-around handguards developed for large Adventure motorcycles that are expected to leave paved roads. On the BMW R 1300 GS, they combine a rigid aluminium backbone with a substantial plastic shield, protecting the exposed handlebar area while reducing direct exposure of the rider’s hands to wind, stones, mud and debris.

CLOSED WRAP-AROUND PROTECTION

Unlike a simple open plastic deflector, the ADV Type C uses a closed wrap-around structure.

The structural bar runs in front of the controls and creates a protective loop around the hand and lever area. During contact with branches, rocks or other obstacles, the load is therefore not carried by the plastic shield alone.

The system helps protect:

• the clutch lever

• surrounding control assemblies

• the rider’s hands from direct debris

• the exposed handlebar area during off-road riding

35 MM ANTICORODAL C-SECTION

The structural core is a durable 35 mm ANTICORODAL aluminium C-section.

The 35 mm specification refers to the C-section profile rather than the diameter of a round aluminium bar.

This profile forms the main load-bearing structure of the handguard, while the plastic shield provides the larger protective surface in front of the rider’s hands.

LARGE SHIELD FOR TRAVEL AND OFF-ROAD USE

Acerbis equips the ADV Type C with a sizeable plastic cover designed to reduce exposure to:

• airflow

• mud

• water spray

• small stones

• branches

• dust and other debris

Extensions on the upper part of the shield provide additional coverage against airflow and material coming toward the rider.

This is particularly useful during long-distance travel, gravel riding and mixed-surface Adventure use.

The handguards should not, however, be considered a substitute for insulated winter hand covers or other equipment specifically designed to retain heat.

FLEXIBLE LOWER SECTION

The lower area of the plastic shield is deliberately more flexible.

When riding an Adventure motorcycle actively in a standing position, the rider moves considerably around the bike and a knee can occasionally reach the handguard area. The flexible lower zone is designed to yield more readily during this type of accidental contact than a completely rigid shield.

This is particularly relevant when:

• climbing

• riding rough terrain

DEVELOPED FOR THE BMW R 1300 GS

ADV Type C handguards are specifically adapted for the BMW R 1300 GS.

Current Acerbis documentation lists applications for 2024–2026 model years. For the standard BMW R 1300 GS, Acerbis explicitly specifies compatibility only with motorcycles equipped with the Enduro Pro Package.

Checking the exact motorcycle specification before ordering is therefore recommended.

SIMPLIFIED INSTALLATION

Acerbis describes ADV Type C installation as simplified compared with its Endurance handguards, with a greater use of standardised components.

The model-specific configuration reduces the compromises commonly associated with universal mounting systems.

After installation, always verify:

• complete brake-lever movement

• complete clutch-lever movement

• unrestricted throttle return

• sufficient clearance around the controls

• full steering movement from lock to lock

• clearance from the fairing, windscreen, cables and hoses

Handguards must never interfere with safe motorcycle operation.
