Lightweight chest and back protection for motocross

The Acerbis Linear Roost Deflector is a lightweight motocross protector designed for riders approximately 165 to 190 cm tall. Rigid front and rear panels help shield the torso against flying stones, dirt, branches and other debris encountered on a motocross track or during off-road riding.

Its simple low-profile construction leaves the arms and sides unrestricted, maintaining freedom of movement when controlling the handlebars, leaning forward and shifting body weight. Adjustable elastic side straps allow the fit to be adapted to the rider and the clothing worn underneath.

Protection against stones and debris

The front and rear sections use rigid polypropylene panels that form a barrier between the rider’s body and the surrounding environment. They help reduce direct contact between the chest or back and stones, dirt or other material thrown up by motorcycle wheels.

The protector is particularly suitable for motocross, lighter enduro, ATV riding and other off-road activities where torso protection is required without the bulk of a complete armoured jacket.

The Linear is designed as a roost deflector or stone shield. It should not be confused with a chest and back impact protector certified under EN 1621-3 and EN 1621-2.

Rigid polypropylene panels

The polypropylene front and rear sections combine low weight with the durability required for regular off-road use. Their shape follows the torso while leaving room for natural shoulder and arm movement.

The rigid shell helps distribute point contact from a flying stone across a larger surface. It also provides a barrier against branches, mud and other debris.

Depending on the rider’s equipment, the compact protector can be worn over or underneath a motocross jersey.

Soft shoulder straps

The shoulder straps are made from soft, pre-curved rubber. They follow the shape of the shoulders and reduce direct pressure from rigid components against the upper body.

During production, the straps are bonded directly to the chest panel. This bi-component construction avoids conventional stitched joints in a heavily stressed area and creates a smooth transition between the rigid shell and flexible shoulder section.

The soft construction leaves the shoulders free to move naturally when steering, raising the elbows and changing position on the motorcycle.

Adjustable elastic side straps

Elastic side straps connect the front and rear panels and allow the circumference to be adapted to the rider. Plastic-clip fasteners make the protector easier to put on and remove without readjusting the strap length before every ride.

The flexibility of the straps allows the construction to follow chest movement during breathing and changes of riding position. It also helps keep the protective panels close to the body.

A correctly adjusted protector should remain stable when leaning forward and controlling the handlebars without restricting breathing or shoulder movement.

Ventilated front and rear panels

Ventilation areas in the front and rear panels allow air to circulate around the torso. Open sides further reduce the amount of material underneath which heat and moisture can accumulate.

The ventilated construction is beneficial during longer motocross sessions, warm-weather riding and slower technical movement through off-road terrain.

The Linear does not provide the same coverage as a complete armoured jacket, but offers a simpler and less bulky solution for riders primarily seeking protection against flying debris.

Freedom of movement while riding

The protector does not include rigid shoulder, elbow or arm protection. The upper limbs therefore remain unrestricted for natural motorcycle control.

Its low-profile shape does not unnecessarily interfere when leaning over the handlebars, standing on the footpegs or shifting body weight quickly. Soft shoulder components move together with the rider and reduce pressure across the shoulders.

Where broader coverage is required, the Linear can be combined with separate certified elbow, shoulder or back protectors.

Designed for riders 165 to 190 cm tall

The Acerbis Linear is designed for riders approximately 165 to 190 cm tall. This range provides general guidance, as the final fit also depends on torso proportions and side-strap adjustment.

The front panel should cover the centre of the chest, while the rear section should sit along the back without moving excessively towards the neck. Before the first ride, the protector should be tried on together with the jersey, helmet and other equipment being used.

EN 14021:2003 certification

The Acerbis Linear complies with EN 14021:2003 for stone shields used in motocross and similar off-road activities. This certification relates to protection against flying stones and other debris.

EN 14021:2003 is not equivalent to EN 1621-3 certification for motorcycle chest impact protectors or EN 1621-2 certification for back protectors. The product therefore cannot be described as a Level 1 or Level 2 impact protector.

Where competition regulations require EN 1621 protection, a corresponding certified model must be selected. Further information is available in the protector certification overview.
