Soft elbow guards for motocross, enduro and mountain biking

The Acerbis X-Elbow Soft are lightweight and flexible elbow guards designed for motocross, enduro, mountain biking and other sporting activities involving a risk of falling or striking the arms. Their soft protective construction follows the natural movement of the elbow without using a bulky external plastic shell.

An anatomically curved shape helps keep the protective insert centred over the elbow. Breathable perforated technical fabric supports airflow, while padded edges improve comfort around sensitive parts of the joint. Adjustable straps and silicone grip elements help maintain a stable position.

The guards comply with EN 1621-1:2012 for motorcycle limb-joint impact protectors. They are supplied in one adjustable adult size.

Soft protection without a rigid shell

The main protective component uses flexible polyurethane material that follows the shape of the elbow and remains pliable during ordinary movement. It avoids creating a rigid barrier around the joint and allows natural operation of the handlebars and control levers.

The soft construction is suitable for riders looking to combine elbow coverage with freedom of movement. When riding seated, standing on the footpegs or rapidly shifting body weight, the guard bends together with the arm.

During an impact, the protective insert helps absorb and distribute part of the applied energy over a wider area. No protector can prevent every injury, and its performance depends on correct positioning, suitable adjustment and an undamaged condition.

Anatomically curved construction

The guards are pre-shaped around the natural bend of the elbow. They therefore do not need to be excessively tightened around the arm simply to create the required profile.

The curved construction helps keep the centre of the insert over the elbow joint with the arm both extended and flexed. It also limits unnecessary material inside the elbow, where excessive bulk could create pressure while operating a motorcycle or bicycle.

Before riding, repeatedly bend and straighten both arms. The insert should remain over the elbow without rotating sideways or restricting safe handlebar control.

Padding around vulnerable areas

Soft padding surrounds the exposed parts of the elbow and extends the contact surface of the protector. It helps reduce pressure around the edges of the main insert and supports comfort during longer use.

Flexible materials fill the space between the arm and the protective component. This helps the guard follow the body and reduces unwanted movement when correctly adjusted.

The low-profile padding does not create an unnecessarily bulky structure, allowing the guards to be worn underneath a suitably loose motocross or cycling jersey.

Perforated technical fabric

The textile construction uses perforations that support airflow. Its open structure helps release heat from around the elbow and reduces prolonged moisture retention underneath the guard.

Ventilation is useful during motocross, enduro and cycling, where the arms remain active and heat may accumulate underneath jersey sleeves. The material cannot prevent perspiration but supports continuous air exchange.

After use, allow the guards to dry naturally in a well-ventilated place. They should not remain sealed inside a damp equipment bag with the jersey, gloves or other equipment.

Flexible neoprene construction

Neoprene and elastic textile sections help the guards adapt to the circumference of the arms. The material follows changes in muscle shape as the elbow bends and keeps the protective insert close to the body.

Flexibility simplifies fitting and supports comfort during longer riding sessions. The guards must still be adjusted securely enough to prevent movement without restricting circulation.

Where tingling, numbness or pronounced pressure marks occur, loosen the straps and check the complete fit again.

Adjustable retaining straps

Two retaining straps stabilise the upper and lower sections of each guard. Their circumference can be adjusted according to the rider’s arm and any base layer being worn.

The straps should keep the guard secure without allowing it to rotate or slide while operating the handlebars. Excessive tightening may create pressure, restrict movement and reduce comfort.

The upper and lower fastenings should be adjusted evenly. Tightening only one strap can tilt the protector and move the insert away from the centre of the elbow.

Silicone grip elements

Silicone elements improve grip against the skin or a thin functional layer. They help limit small movements during repeated arm flexion, vibration and rapid changes of riding position.

These elements supplement the adjustable straps but cannot replace a suitable fit. The contact areas should be kept clean because perspiration, dust and detergent residue may reduce grip.

Freedom of movement

The X-Elbow Soft contain no rigid hinges or large plastic panels. The arms can therefore move naturally while operating the throttle, clutch, brake levers and handlebars.

Their flexible construction is also suitable for mountain biking, enduro MTB, BMX and bike-park riding, where frequent changes of arm position are required.

A correctly fitted guard should not restrict a complete grip on the handlebars, operation of the controls or normal forearm rotation.

Wearing underneath a jersey

The low-profile construction can be worn underneath a motocross or cycling jersey. The sleeves must provide sufficient room and should not compress, displace or roll the edges of the guards.

The protectors may be worn directly against the skin or over a thin functional base layer. The selected configuration must keep the insert stable over the elbow.

The textile construction is not a substitute for abrasion-resistant motorcycle clothing. Appropriate outer equipment remains necessary for road use and protection during a slide on asphalt.

One adjustable adult size

The model is supplied in one adult size. Elastic materials and adjustable straps allow it to accommodate different arm circumferences.

One-size labelling does not guarantee a suitable fit for every rider. When trying the guards on, check:

  • that the insert is centred over the elbow,

  • sufficient adjustment range in both straps,

  • stability through full arm flexion and extension,

  • unrestricted circulation,

  • comfort inside the elbow,

  • compatibility with the jersey or jacket,

  • safe use of the handlebars and control levers.

Where a protector continues to move after adjustment or cannot be secured without excessive pressure, the fit is not suitable.

EN 1621-1:2012 certification

The Acerbis X-Elbow Soft comply with EN 1621-1:2012 for motorcycle limb-joint impact protectors.

Certification confirms that the protective construction has passed the prescribed laboratory impact-transmission tests. Performance assumes correct fitting and an undamaged product.

The standard relates to impact attenuation in the specified protective area. It does not represent complete protection of the arm or a guarantee against every type of injury.

Further information is available in the protector certification overview.

Recommended use

The guards are suitable for:

  • motocross,

  • enduro,

  • pit-bike riding,

  • ATV riding,

  • mountain biking,

  • enduro MTB,

  • downhill,

  • BMX,

  • bike parks,

  • other sporting activities involving a risk of elbow impact.

Inspection and care

Before every use, inspect the protective inserts, fabric, seams, silicone elements, strap elasticity and fastenings. A protector with tears, worn fabric, damaged seams or permanent deformation should no longer be used.

Following a significant fall, inspect both guards even where no damage is immediately visible.

Follow the care instructions on the product label. Avoid aggressive detergents, solvents, bleach and direct heat sources.
