Soft body armour with complete Level 2 protection
The Acerbis X-Air Level 2 Body Armour is lightweight and flexible upper-body protection designed for motocross, enduro and other demanding off-road activities. Soft viscoelastic inserts protect the chest, back, shoulders and elbows, adapting to the body while maintaining the freedom of movement required for active riding.
Its close-fitting construction uses elastic and breathable mesh to help keep the individual protectors correctly positioned without relying on bulky rigid plastic shells. All four protected areas provide certified Level 2 protection.

Level 2 chest protection
The front section contains an ergonomically shaped chest protector made from soft viscoelastic material. Its low-profile construction follows the torso and avoids the resistance associated with extensive rigid plastic panels.
During an impact, the viscoelastic material helps absorb and distribute part of the transmitted energy. Its flexible construction also allows the protector to be worn close to the body, supporting stable positioning when leaning forward, controlling the handlebars and changing position on the motorcycle.
The chest protector complies with EN 1621-3, Level 2. This is the higher of the two protection levels defined by the standard for motorcycle chest impact protectors.
Level 2 back protection
The back protector uses a soft and flexible material that follows the curvature of the rider’s back and moves together with the body. Its low thickness reduces unnecessary bulk and supports forward lean, torso rotation and transitions between seated and standing riding positions.
The close-fitting textile construction helps keep the insert positioned over the spinal area. Correct sizing is important to prevent the protector from rising towards the neck or moving sideways while riding.
The back insert complies with EN 1621-2, Level 2. Certification confirms that the protective component has passed specified laboratory impact-energy transmission tests.
Level 2 shoulder and elbow protection
Extended soft viscoelastic inserts protect the shoulders and elbows. Their flexibility supports natural arm movement when controlling the handlebars, raising the elbows and transferring body weight.
The protectors are housed inside elastic mesh sleeves that help keep them positioned over the relevant joints. The close fit reduces unwanted movement without bulky rigid connections or numerous separate straps.
The shoulder and elbow protectors comply with EN 1621-1, Level 2. Before every ride, check that the inserts correctly cover the corresponding joints.
P.O.I. technology
All protective inserts use Acerbis P.O.I. technology based on viscoelastic material. The protectors remain soft and flexible during normal movement, allowing them to follow the rider’s anatomy and move together with the body.
During an impact, the material helps reduce the force transmitted to the protected area. After temporary loading, it returns to its original shape provided that it has not been mechanically damaged.
Soft construction does not mean that the armour can automatically continue to be used after a major fall. Following a significant impact, the inserts should be removed and inspected for tearing, permanent deformation or other damage.
Low-profile protectors
The chest, back, shoulder and elbow protectors are ergonomically shaped and have a low thickness. They therefore create less bulk underneath a motocross jersey than constructions based on extensive rigid shells.
The low profile supports upper-body movement and allows the armour to be worn close to the rider. A close fit also helps keep the protective inserts correctly positioned.
Outer clothing must not be so tight that it deforms, compresses or moves the inserts away from their intended protective areas.
Elastic and breathable mesh
The base construction uses stretch mesh fabric that adapts to the torso and arms. The elastic material supports forward lean, body rotation, elbow flexion and active changes of position while riding.
The mesh structure encourages airflow around the protective inserts and helps release excess heat and moisture. This is particularly useful during motocross training, technical enduro and warm-weather riding.
Protective inserts naturally reduce airflow directly through the covered areas. The breathable textile nevertheless helps release heat from the surrounding parts of the body.
Freedom of movement while riding
Soft protectors and stretch sleeves move together with the shoulders, elbows and torso. The rider can control the handlebars naturally, raise the elbows, lean forward and change position on the motorcycle.
The construction does not use rigid plastic connections between the chest, shoulders and arms. The individual sections can therefore move more independently and create less resistance during dynamic riding.
The X-Air Level 2 is suitable for motocross, enduro, mountain biking and other activities requiring broad upper-body protection combined with flexibility and a low profile.
YKK side zip
The armour opens using a long YKK side zip. Positioning the closure away from the centre of the chest maintains a continuous front protective area and reduces pressure from the zip across the middle of the body.
The side opening makes the armour easier to put on without overstretching the mesh or awkwardly pulling the complete construction over the head. Once closed, the elastic material helps keep the front and rear inserts close to the body.
The zip slider includes a puller for easier handling. Before riding, check that the zip is completely closed and that the surrounding fabric is not caught in its teeth.
Removable protective inserts
The chest, back, shoulder and elbow protectors can be removed from the textile construction. This simplifies washing of the mesh garment and allows every protective component to be inspected separately.
All inserts must be removed before washing, and the instructions on the product label should be followed. Unless expressly permitted by the manufacturer, the protectors should not be machine washed, wrung out or exposed to high temperatures.
Every component must be completely dry before reassembly. The inserts must then be returned to the correct pockets, correctly oriented and checked for secure positioning.
Neck-brace compatibility
The low thickness and flexibility of the chest and back protection support use with a suitable motorcycle neck protector.
The helmet, neck protector and body armour should be tried on together before riding. The individual components must not push against one another or restrict normal head rotation, flexion or extension.
Actual compatibility depends on the particular neck-protector model, selected body-armour size and the rider’s body proportions.
Selecting the correct size
The Acerbis X-Air Level 2 Body Armour is available in S/M, L/XL and XXL. Selection should take account not only of torso circumference but also of the actual position of every protective insert.
The chest protector must remain centred over the chest, the back insert should follow the spinal area and the shoulder and elbow protectors must cover the corresponding joints.
A size that is too loose may allow the inserts to move during a fall. Armour that is too tight can restrict breathing and movement or prevent the protective components from sitting correctly against the body.
Road use
The X-Air Level 2 is primarily intended as impact protection for motocross, enduro and other sporting activities. The mesh garment itself is not a complete substitute for a motorcycle jacket providing abrasion protection during a slide on asphalt.
For road use, the armour should therefore be combined with suitable outer motorcycle clothing.
