The Acerbis X-Air Level 2 Vest is lightweight body protection designed for motocross, enduro, mountain biking and other sporting activities where torso protection is required without a bulky construction. Soft viscoelastic protectors cover the chest and back, adapt to the rider’s body and remain flexible during normal movement.

A close-fitting elastic mesh vest helps keep the protective inserts correctly positioned without unnecessarily restricting forward lean, torso rotation or handlebar control. Both the chest and back protectors provide certified Level 2 protection.

Level 2 chest protection

The front of the vest contains an ergonomically shaped chest protector made from soft viscoelastic material. Its low-profile construction follows the torso and avoids the resistance associated with extensive rigid plastic panels.

During an impact, the viscoelastic structure helps absorb and distribute part of the transmitted energy. Its soft construction also allows the protector to be worn close to the body, helping reduce unwanted movement during active riding.

The chest insert complies with EN 1621-3, Level 2. This is the higher of the two protection levels defined by the standard for motorcycle chest protectors.

For correct performance, the insert must remain positioned over the centre of the chest and should not move significantly when leaning forward or controlling the handlebars.

Level 2 back protection

The back insert is designed to cover the spinal area and follow the natural curvature of the rider’s back. Its soft and thin material allows more natural forward lean, torso rotation and changes of riding position than a large one-piece rigid shell.

The back protector complies with EN 1621-2, Level 2. Certification confirms that the insert has passed the prescribed laboratory tests for reducing transmitted impact force.

The close-fitting mesh construction helps keep the back protector near the body. Correct sizing is particularly important to prevent the insert from rising towards the neck or moving sideways.

P.O.I. viscoelastic protection technology

The protective inserts use Acerbis P.O.I. technology based on viscoelastic material. The protectors remain soft and flexible during ordinary movement, allowing them to follow the rider’s anatomy and move together with the body.

During an impact, the material helps reduce the energy transmitted to the chest or back. After loading, it returns to its original form provided that it has not been damaged.

Soft construction does not mean that the protector can automatically continue to be used after a major fall. Following a significant impact, the inserts should be removed and checked for tearing, deformation or other damage.

Low-profile construction

Both the chest and back protectors have a low thickness and avoid unnecessary bulk underneath a jersey or additional clothing. The vest is therefore suitable for riders who prefer close-fitting protection to large rigid plastic panels.

The low profile makes it easier to combine the vest with a motocross jersey, lightweight jacket and other protective equipment. Outer clothing must not be so tight that it deforms the inserts or moves them away from their intended positions.

The X-Air Level 2 Vest protects the chest and back. It does not include shoulder or elbow protectors, which must be added separately where broader coverage is required.

Elastic and breathable mesh fabric

The base of the vest is made from flexible mesh fabric that follows the shape of the torso and helps stabilise the inserts during movement. The elastic material supports forward lean, body rotation and active changes of position while riding.

Its mesh structure encourages airflow and heat release through areas not covered by the protective inserts. This is beneficial during motocross training, technical enduro, mountain biking and warmer conditions.

Protective inserts inevitably reduce airflow directly through the covered areas. The mesh nevertheless helps release heat and moisture around their edges and from the remaining parts of the torso.

YKK side zip

The vest opens using a long YKK side zip. Positioning the closure away from the centre of the chest maintains a continuous front protective area and reduces pressure from the zip across the middle of the body.

The side opening makes the vest easier to put on without overstretching the mesh or pulling the entire protector awkwardly over the head. Once closed, the elastic material keeps the front and rear inserts close to the body.

The zip slider includes a puller for easier handling. Before riding, check that the zip is completely closed and that the surrounding fabric has not become caught in its teeth.

Removable protective inserts

Both the chest and back protectors can be removed from the vest. This allows the mesh garment to be washed more thoroughly and makes it easier to inspect the condition of the protective inserts separately.

The protectors must be removed before washing, and the instructions on the care label should be followed. Unless specifically permitted by the manufacturer, the inserts should not be machine washed, wrung out or exposed to high temperatures.

All components must be completely dry before reassembly. The inserts must then be returned to the correct pockets, correctly oriented and checked for secure positioning before use.

Neck-brace compatibility

The low thickness and flexibility of the chest and back protection are designed to accommodate a suitable motorcycle neck protector.

The helmet, neck protector and vest should be tried on together before riding. The individual components must not push against one another or restrict normal head rotation, flexion or extension.

Actual compatibility depends on the particular neck-protector model, selected vest size and the rider’s body proportions.

Freedom of movement while riding

The vest has no sleeves or rigid side panels, leaving the shoulders and arms unrestricted for natural handlebar control. Stretch fabric follows torso movement and avoids rigid connections between the chest, back and upper limbs.

The construction is suitable for seated and standing riding, rapid weight transfer and movement through technical terrain. Its close fit also limits fabric gathering underneath a jersey.

A correctly selected vest should fit close to the body without restricting breathing, causing numbness or creating uncomfortable pressure.

Off-road and road use

The Acerbis X-Air Level 2 Vest is primarily intended as chest and back impact protection for motocross, enduro, mountain biking and related sporting activities. The mesh garment itself is not designed to provide full abrasion protection during a prolonged slide on asphalt.

For road use, the vest should therefore be combined with suitable outer motorcycle clothing that also provides abrasion resistance.

Selecting the correct size

The vest is available in S/M, L/XL and XXL. Selection should take account not only of torso circumference but also of the actual position of the chest and back inserts.

The chest protector must remain centred over the chest, while the rear insert should follow the spinal area. A size that is too loose may allow the protectors to move, while one that is too tight can restrict breathing and movement.

The vest should ideally be tried on together with the jersey, neck protector and other equipment used while riding.
