Proper care of your motorcycle helmet is essential to ensure that it serves you reliably for as long as possible and at the same time provides maximum protection on every ride. Although a helmet is one of the most important pieces of equipment for a motorcyclist, many riders underestimate its maintenance. However, cleanliness, regular inspection and following recommended procedures can extend the life of the materials and ensure that the helmet protects you as it should. Let's take a look at some simple steps — whether you ride on the road or off-road.

Motocross Helmet
Lifespan of a Motocross Helmet
Every helmet has its lifespan, even if you hardly use it. Materials age naturally — most notably the EPS liner, the foam inside that absorbs energy during an impact. This part of the helmet is essential for head protection and gradually loses its properties.

It is generally recommended to replace a helmet approximately every 5 years. However, an active motocross rider who trains every weekend or several times a month will usually “wear out” their helmet sooner — often within 3 years.

Falls are a separate chapter.
If a helmet receives a serious blow, it can be rendered worthless after the first use, even if it does not look damaged at first glance. The internal structure can be disrupted and the helmet loses its ability to protect. It is therefore wise to replace the helmet after a hard fall.

Washing your motocross helmet

Quick cleaning between races

After riding in the mud, your helmet is often covered in a layer of dirt, which can damage the paintwork or impair ventilation over time. All you need to do is:
  • use a mild soap, degreaser or even window cleaner,
  • spray the dirt and let it soak,
  • only then clean the surface with a microfiber cloth.
It is important that the dirt is sufficiently soaked - this will prevent scratching the surface.

Routine maintenance after a ride
Once in a while, it is a good idea to wash your helmet more thoroughly.
  1. Remove the inner linings. We will wash them separately.
  2. Spray the shell with a soap solution or a mild degreaser.
  3. You can also use a spray bottle, but set it to the lowest pressure and keep a safe distance from the nozzle.
  4. Never point the spray gun directly at the inside of the helmet - this could damage the EPS.
The motorcycle helmet can even be completely submerged in water, because EPS does not absorb water - even after getting wet, it retains its properties and withstands impact tests without any problems.

Washing the inner linings
The linings of a motocross helmet can be:
  • washed in a washing machine on a gentle cycle or by hand,
  • never use fabric softener, which destroys the structure of the fabric,
  • do not dry in a dryer, but let it air dry freely.
TIP: We also offer spare parts for our helmets - if the linings or visor are worn out, simply replace them with new ones.

Road Motorcycle Helmet
Cleaning a road helmet may seem like a chore, but its condition directly affects safety. A road rider can only rely on what they can see — and a dirty or scratched visor can be a serious problem.

Visor care
After each ride, it is advisable to:
  • avoid aggressive cleaners that can damage surface treatments (e.g. anti-fog layers).
Insect dirt can significantly reduce visibility and oncoming car lights can be reflected from a scratched visor. If the plexiglass is scratched, it is better to replace it as soon as possible.

Shell cleaning
It is best to clean the shell of a road helmet with soapy water.
Use a soft cloth and pay particular attention to the ventilation holes. These can be clogged with small insects or dust, which will significantly impair ventilation. The following are good cleaning tools:
  • a soft brush,
  • cotton swabs.
Maintenance of the inner padding
Just like motocross helmets, the lining of road helmets is usually removable.
You can wash it in the washing machine, but:
  • only on gentle cycle,
  • without fabric softener,
  • and always dry it freely, never in the dryer.
Long-term care and hygienic maintenance
Over the months, the helmet accumulates:
  • sweat,
  • skin oil,
  • dust,
  • bacteria.
That's why it's a good idea to clean the helmet thoroughly at least twice a year - both the shell and the inside. Proper maintenance will extend the life of the materials, improve comfort and, above all, ensure that the helmet will continue to fulfill its protective function.

Conclusion
The helmet is the most important safety element for every biker, and therefore deserves regular care. Whether it's a quick rinse between rides, a thorough cleaning after a weekend in the field, or regular maintenance of your visor, the time invested will pay off in the form of safer, more comfortable riding. A well-maintained helmet will protect better, last longer, and be ready to do its job.
