Acerbis K035 Level 2 articulated knee guards

The Acerbis K035 articulated knee guards are designed for motocross, enduro and demanding off-road riding. They combine extended knee and shin coverage with a honeycomb external shell and a dual-joint mechanism that follows the natural movement of the rider’s leg.

The construction helps protect against direct impacts, flying stones and contact with the motorcycle or surrounding terrain. It also limits excessive knee extension without creating unnecessary resistance during normal movement.

The guards comply with EN 1621-1:2012, Level 2.

Honeycomb shell supporting impact distribution

The external protective sections use a structure formed from hexagonal cells. This honeycomb geometry combines structural strength with reduced weight and helps distribute impact energy across a larger surface.

The semi-rigid plastic creates a barrier between the rider’s leg and the surrounding terrain while retaining a degree of flexibility for more comfortable use. Its segmented shape covers the front of the knee and shin and remains close to the protected areas when correctly adjusted.

Perforations in the protective sections also support airflow underneath the guard.

Dual-joint mechanism following knee movement

An ergonomic dual-joint mechanism connects the upper and lower sections. As the rider bends the leg, the individual components move together with the knee and help maintain protective coverage in the correct position.

The articulated design makes it easier to switch between seated and standing riding positions, control the motorcycle through corners and shift body weight in technical terrain. It provides extended coverage without significantly restricting normal knee flexion.

The mechanism also helps limit excessive hyperextension beyond the knee’s normal range. The product is not, however, a medical brace or a replacement for an individually prescribed orthopaedic device.

Certified Level 2 protection

The Acerbis K035 complies with EN 1621-1:2012, Level 2. This standard evaluates the impact-energy absorption of motorcycle limb-joint protectors under defined laboratory testing conditions.

Level 2 is the higher of the two basic protection levels specified by the standard. Level 2 protectors are required to transmit less impact force during testing than Level 1 products.

The certification applies to the impact-protection performance of the knee guards. It does not mean that they provide the same joint stabilisation as a medical or rigid-framed racing knee brace.

Further information about the standards is available in the protector certification overview.

Ventilated internal construction

The perforated external shell is combined with a ventilated inner lining. Openings allow air to circulate around the knee and shin and help reduce heat build-up during physically demanding riding.

The breathable construction is particularly useful during longer motocross sessions, slow technical enduro and warm-weather use.

Ventilated neoprene and elastic fastening straps also support airflow without surrounding the leg with large non-breathable panels.

Removable padding for a more precise fit

Soft internal padding separates the rigid structure from the rider’s knee and helps reduce pressure during extended use.

Selected padding sections are attached with hook-and-loop fasteners and can be removed or adjusted to suit the rider’s leg. This allows the space around the knee joint to be adapted and reduces unwanted movement inside the guard.

Correct positioning is important for both comfort and protection. The centre of the hinge mechanism should align with the natural knee axis, and the guard should not move significantly as the rider bends the leg.

Adjustable fastening system

The guards are secured using a combination of breathable neoprene straps, elastic adjustment sections and hook-and-loop closures. The individual components can be adjusted to suit the circumference of the thigh and calf.

Elastic straps help maintain more consistent tension as the leg bends and straightens. This allows the guard to remain stable without applying the same rigid pressure throughout the entire movement.

The fastening system should be tightened enough to prevent unwanted movement without restricting circulation or natural knee flexion. Fit should be checked again after the first few minutes of riding.

Elastic undersleeves included

Elastic undersleeves designed to be worn directly against the leg are included. They create a continuous layer between the rider’s skin, the internal padding and the fastening straps.

The sleeves help reduce rubbing, pressure marks and skin irritation during longer rides. Their stretch fabric follows leg movement, while the breathable rear section supports heat and moisture transfer.

Replacement or additional Acerbis K035 undersleeves are also available separately.

Universal size

The guards are supplied in one universal size. Their fitting range is provided by the elastic straps, neoprene sections and removable internal padding.

A universal size does not mean that the guards will fit every rider equally well. Before riding, check hinge alignment, knee and shin coverage and the ability to bend the leg fully.

The guards should not press into the back of the knee, interfere with the upper edge of motocross boots or rotate sideways while walking and riding.
